Afmadow air strike: KDF kills 57 Al Shabaab militants

Afmadow air strike by KDF soldiers on Thursday has left 57 Al Shabaab militants dead and scores others injured.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the operation was conducted using artillery fire supported by helicopter gunships.
“Following the engagement, five (5) technicals were destroyed among other weapons,” a statement from the ministry said.
The incident occurred around 8.45AM just a few kilometers from the KDF base.
The number of casualties in the operation is not yet known.
Reports reveal that Afmadow was a major Al Shabaab stronghold before KDF captured it in 2012.
Since then, a number of attacks have been launched here, with Al Shabaab recording the most casualties.
Four months ago, 140 militants were reportedly killed during a botched attack on the Kenyan soldiers.
