CS Matiang’i bans importation of Chinese Gambling Machines

Interior cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has with immediate effect banned the importation of Chinese gambling slot machines into the country.

Speaking in Nakuru when he led the destruction of hundreds of Chinese gambling machines, Matiang’i lamented that the machines have had a negative impact on school-going children especially those in day schools.

He said that the gambling machines have made countless children drop out of school.

“Go ask parents and head teachers and they will tell you the kind of suffering these machines have created,” he said.

The CS issued an order to all security agencies within the counties to impound all Chinese gambling machines which he said are operating illegally.

Matiang’i noted that government agencies including the Kenya ports authority and the Kenya revenue authority will be working to block any further entry of the machines into the country.

He warned foreigners who are doing illegal businesses in Kenya like gambling and warned that the government will continue with its crackdown on those who have fake work permits.

Matiang’i added that the government will not allow foreigners to destroy lives of children in the name of doing business.
