Fake electricity connections: Why Kenya Power lied to Uhuru

Kenya Power is haunted by reports that they conducted 1 million fake electricity connections.
In an expose by The Standard, it was revealed that the power utility company lied to Uhuru about the number of people connected to the national grid under the Last Mile project.
It was discovered that out of the 3.6 million new connections, about 1 million did not exist.
Reports indicate that pressure from the government prompted Kenya Power to give the President fake reports.
Last Mile project was launched in May 2015 in a bid to light up rural areas. The government’s aim was to connect 70 per cent of Kenyan homes to the national grid by 2017.
