500 doctors resume work
Health Cabinet Secretary, Clepa Mailu has said that about 500 striking doctors have resumed work.
He also directed that drugs in public health facilities that are currently closed be redistributed to faith-based hospitals.
He however denied reports that the government was planning to replace striking doctors with foreigners.
Doctors have been on strike for over a month after the government failed to implement a CBA signed in 2013.
Striking doctors already sentenced in court
On Thursday, the labour relations court trashed the CBA claims and sentenced the doctors to one-month suspended jail term.
“There is no CBA. And let me speak for the Kenyans today to know that there is no CBA because this court has not registered any CBA.
“You have a sentence hanging on your head for two weeks … If the strike is still on, you will be arrested wherever you are and taken to Langata for the ladies and for the men Industrial are,” said Judge Hellen Wasilwa while issuing the judgment.
The KMPDU vowed to continue with the strike, accusing the court of disrespecting doctors.
