President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged National Registration Bureau (NRB) to start processing identity cards within three days of application.
Speaking during his tour of Central Kenya region, the President said issuance of IDs is a priority during this electioneering period.
He also issued a strong warning to officials who make it hard for youths to obtain the document that they will be subject to harsh penalties.
“We will take action against officials who ask for bribes from youth who want IDs. Chiefs and other officials who make it hard for the youth to get ID cards will be punished,” he said.
He called on the youth to come out in large numbers and register as voters so they can exercise their democratic right of choosing the leaders they desire in the August General Election.
