IEBC to start mass voter registration on Monday


Nairobi – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is targeting 6 million new voters in a mass voter recruitment drive set to begin on Monday next week.
The IEBC has confirmed that all measures have been put in place to reach the target of 4-6 million voters.
“One month Mass Voter Registration MVR starts on 16th. 7,793 BVR kits,15,000 officials deployed,” the Commission said.
Addressing the media in Nairobi on Monday, IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba said the current register has approximately 15.9 million voters out of the targeted 22 million voters.
He also revealed that 9 million Kenyans who have national IDs have not yet registered as voters.
The final voters register is expected to be released by June 17, Citizen News reports.
In order to register as a voter, one is required to be:

  • A Kenyan aged 18 years and above
  • Of sound mind
  • Have a valid ID card or Kenyan Passport
  • Physically present at the preferred registration centre
  • Fill in a form of request to be registered as a voter
