Transport options within Imara Daima Estate in Nairobi

Imara Daima Estate is a ward within Nairobi, located in Embakasi South Constituency. It borders Pipeline estate, Fedha Estate, Dolholm, Kware, and Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.

Imara Daima is one of the lucky estates within Nairobi with access to road, air, and railway transport.

This article will highlight the available means of transport you can use to access Imara Daima Estate from Nairobi town or JKIA.

Matatu

Indimanje sacco busMatatu is the cheapest means of transport whether to or from Imara Daima and Nairobi CBD. Indimanje Sacco group is the matatu Sacco that operates on this route.

The name is not common to most people living in Nairobi thus you may wonder where to board it. If you are in Nairobi CBD, the pick-up and drop-off point is Bus Station, popularly known as just BS, next to Afya Center.

The final destination is St Bakhita, with drop-offs at Villa Franka, Imara Daima Estate, Mastermind, Maziwa, and Deliverance Church. These matatus will always use Enterprise road in Industrial area or route 33, in other words, Mombasa Road, then Tegla Lorupe Rd and finally Cosmos Ndeti Rd with drop-off points mentioned above.

Before Covid 19 pandemic, these matatus used to charge KES 50 to and from Nairobi CBD but currently due to social distance, they are charging KES 100.  In addition, drivers and conductors are well organized and respect their customers.

It will take you 45 minutes to 1 hour to commute to/from town from/to Imara Daima in a matatu during peak time and 20-30 minutes during off peak hours.

Other matatus to Imara Daima

If you are traveling from Mombasa by SGR and need to access Imara Daima cheaply, you can board any matatu operating along Mombasa Road to town at the SGR stage opposite Hilton Garden Inn. Most matatus that stop here can take you to Imara Daima. Ask the conductor to drop you at the Imara Daima footbridge. Cross over the bridge and if you have a heavy luggage, take a boda doda for only KES 50 to your house in Imara Daima.

Alternatively, you can use an Uber which will cost you less than KES 300.

Imara Daima operate 24 hours during normal times. However, if for some reason you cannot access Indimanje Sacco matatus from BS, any vehicle operating on Mombasa road can take you to Imara Daima. You can also board any vehicle thata is headed towards Syokimau, SGR, Mlolongo, Kitengela, Athi River or even Machakos. Alternatively, board those plying the Pipeline estate route. Ask them to drop you off at Imara Ndani, Imara Daima, Mastermind, Maziwa, St Bakhita or Southfield Shopping Mall.

Railway / SGR Transport

Trains have been scheduled to operate from/to Imara Daima. The morning train leaves Imara Daima Railway station for town at 7 am and takes approximately 30 minutes to get to town.

The drop off point in town is the Railways stage and from here you can take a walk to the CBD whether for work or personal business.

In the evening, the train leaves town at 5 pm for Syokimau station with drop offs at Imara Daima Railway Station among others. The train ticket price is usually KES 40 to and from Nairobi Town.

Once you alight, you can take a walk or boda boda to your house. The standard boda boda fee around Imara Daima is KES 50.

Air Transport

Imara Daima neighbors Jomo Kenya International Airport, JKIA. You can always call for an Uber if you want to go to the airport or Imara from Airport. There are also matatus operating from JKIA to Nairobi CBD via Mombasa road. You can board any of those matatus and ask the conductor to drop you at Imara Daima footbridge. An Uber to the airport will cost you about 300 shillings.
