Jubilee smart card launch marks the beginning of ‘Tuko Pamoja’ campaign
Jubilee party has embraced technology ahead of the May nominations by introducing smart cards for members.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are launching the membership cards today at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
About 10 million cards have been shipped into the country as the party plans to embark on a mass recruitment drive after the smart card launch in order to hit the 15 million voters mark.
Jubilee smart card to cost KES 20
Members will pay KES 20 in order to obtain and start using the card, Citizen News reports.
The card contains member’s details including mobile number which will be used for card activation. Card holders will be required to send a text message to the party headquarters with full names, identity card number and card number for verification.
Members of other parties will also be allowed to migrate to Jubilee via the card.
Jubilee smart card to ensure free and fair nominations
Head of the Party secretariat, Raphael Tuju, said the card will ensure that members do not vote twice.
“Once you have voted, your number is captured in the system and so we will be able to tell that you cannot vote again.”
