The opposition at the Coast has said the death of Kwale Senator Juma Boy was a major blow to ODM but assured locals that Jubilee will not win in the August election.
In an interview, Ambassador Chirau Ali Mwakwere who just resigned as the High commissioner in Dar- es Salaam Tanzania to run for the Kwale gubernatorial seat termed the incident as a blow to Kwale County.
Mwakwere who just joined ODM party ahead of the general election said on Tuesday morning that though Juma boy Juma defeated him during the 2013 Kwale senatorial battle, he had no grudge with the late.
“Juma Boy Juma was the first person to congratulate me when I announced my bid for the Kwale gubernatorial seat and joining Orange Democratic Party,” added Mwakwere at his Ziwani home in Kwale County.
Mwakwere said that he was forced to cancel his grand rally on Sunday at the Kwale Baraza Park after receiving the sad news and decided to join the family of the deceased.
“Let us finish up on these issues first before we get back to politics and ensure Juma Boy Juma’s legacy remains,” he added.
On his part, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who was a very close ally of the late Juma Boy Juma said that the opposition is only getting strong.
Speaking at a different forum in Mombasa Tuesday, Joho said that though Boy struggled to ensure opposition remained relevant in Kwale and the entire Coast, the remaining brigade will carry on.
“Let him rest in peace but we are assuring him that his dream is almost being realised; the opposition will be in power after the August general election.”
Senator Boy died of high blood pressure at the Aga Khan hospital last Sunday at the age of 56.
He was laid to rest at his Vanga home on Monday in a ceremony that was graced by CORD leader Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, former Kenyan high Commissioner to Dar es Salaam Ambassador Chirau Ali Mwakwere among other Coast leaders.
