Kencom is one of the busiest matatu stops in Nairobi. City Hoppa, KBS, and City Shuttle use this terminal for their fleet plying along Ngong Road and Upperhill. If you are going to Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, Valley Road, Kasneb, NTSA, NHIF among others, this is your stage.
You need to know your destination and the matatus that ply that route. Otherwise, you will lose your way. Here are the routes used by Kencom matatu stage buses and their respective destinations.

Matatu route 4W- Serena hotel & Ngong Road
Board these buses if you are going to Coptic hospital, Prestige Plaza, Adams Arcade, Ngong Road Posta, (Nakumatt) Junction mall, (Dagoretti) Corner, Wanyee, Satellite Kawangware and Kabiria. The charges for this route during offpeak hours is 50 shillings. These buses take a detour at the Junction mall and do not proceed to Ngong Racecourse.
Matatu route 7C- KNH, Upperhill, KASNEB & NTSA
Many people have no idea how to get to KNH to see a patient or seek medical attention. If you are in town, find your way to Kencom bus stage and then board any of the 7C buses. If you are going to Serena hotel, Community, NHIF, Upperhill, NTSA/Kasneb, Traffic police, KMTC, Mbagathi hospital, TSC, Kenyatta market, Ngumo or Mediheal hospital, these are the buses you should board. The fare ranges between 20 and 40 shillings.
Matatu route 32 – Kibera and Toi Market
Some people who want to go to Kibera board the buses for Kenyatta market or Prestige and then walk the remaining distance or get a connecting matatu. However, you can board a bus that will take you directly to Kibera. Bus number 32 can also take you to KMTC, Serena hotel, Community, Coptic hospital, Uchumi/Kabarnet, Olympic Primary, Toi market, Ayany and finally Kibera for only 40 shillings.

Matatu route 46 – Yaya Centre & Kawangware
If you are in the city centre and want to go to Yaya Centre, Kawangware, Nairobi Hospital or Hurlingham, these are the buses to board. Number 46 can also take you to Nairobi Women’s hospital, Amboseli and Congo near Kawangware. They pass by DOD, Valley Road, CITAM, Integrity centre and Valley Arcade so if you are going to any of these places, these buses will take you there. It will cost you between 30 and 60 shillings depending on the time of the day. There are however other ways to get to Yaya centre and Kawangware, and we’ll talk about them in future posts.
