A 35-year-old woman from Subukia sub-County in Nakuru set herself on fire following a quarrel with her son.
According to neighbours, the woman has been complaining about her 14-year-old son who has indulged in criminal activities.
Josephine Njeri Muthoni is believed to have taken the action after her son dropped out of school without a clear reason.
“For some time now, she has been complaining about her unruly son who dropped out of school and that might have caused her to take the action, “said Mwangi a neighbor.
Muthoni is said to have on several occasions reported the son to the children’s department for guidance and counseling but did not change his character.
Subukia police boss, Alex Ng’ang’a confirmed the incident saying that the deceased locked herself in the house on Tuesday night and burnt herself at around 8pm.
Ng’ang’a narrated that Muthoni had come from her casual jobs in the area but did not find her son at home.  She prepared dinner and fed her 8-month-old daughter and prepared her for bed.
“She later went to harvest maize from a nearby farm and placed it in her main room, wrapped herself with a sack, doused it with paraffin and then set herself on fire.
Neighbors who were passing by spotted smoke coming from the house and rushed to rescue the woman but she was already dead. They broke into the bedroom where the baby was sleeping and rescued her. She sustained minor injuries.
The baby was rushed to Nyahuhuru hospital where she was treated and discharged while the body of the deceased was taken to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
