One of the candidates eyeing Nairobi governorship on a Jubilee ticket has stepped down.
Philip Kisia, who had expressed interest in the top County seat, has joined hands with former Gatanga MP, Peter Kenneth in the race to unseat the incumbent Dr Evans Kidero.
Kisia, who is the former Nairobi Town Clerk, says he will now be Peter Kenneth’s running mate.
Speaking to Capital News, he said: “The reason Kidero has failed is because his party ODM and CORD lack clear policies and agenda for Kenyans.”
Dr Kidero will be defending his seat on an ODM ticket.
Senator Mike Sonko, MP Johnson Sakaja, Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru and are also eyeing the same seat on a Jubilee ticket.
The Deputy President, William Ruto has however urged the aspirants to come up with one name of the best candidate to floor Kidero.
During a meeting with the aspirants, the DP was quoted as saying: “We have … agreed that whatever sacrifices should be made must be made for Jubilee to take the Nairobi governor’s post.”
Sources indicate that DP Ruto is pushing for Water CS, Eugene Wamalwa’s candidature.
