Police in Mombasa are holding two ISIS suspects who are believed to have sneaked back into the country from Syria.
According to the anti-terror police unit in Mombasa, Nasra Hyder Faiz and Salim Mohammed Rashid were arrested on Saturday at Kizingo area in Mombasa.
The arresting officers who sought anonymity said the two were planning to attack a shopping mall in Mombasa.
“They were working with their close associates in Mombasa to execute the attack, and we had to immediately pursue them,” added one of the officers.
However, he revealed that the two will be probed to reveal their colleague who is believed to have sneaked back into the country early January this year before going into hiding.
“We will ensure the two reveal the whereabouts of their colleague. These people are very dangerous,” he added.
On his part, the Coast Deputy police boss Akello Odhiambo said that more information will be given to the public after police conclude their investigations.
Odhiambo said that terror groups including Al-Shabaab and the ISIS have been recruiting young men at the coast and police are on high alert.
“These terror networks recruit young men from Lamu, Malindi, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa counties before taking them out of the country for training,” added Mr Odhiambo.
The two were detained at the coast regional headquarters in Mombasa for interrogations.
