Data rates are expected to go up as Uganda implements the newly proposed social media tax this month.
Access to networks such as Google Hangouts, Yahoo Messenger, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram among others will attract a daily tax of UGX 200.
The new tax became effective on July 1, with the government taxing network providers with the responsibility of blocking users who do not comply.
