Stella Nyanzi charged for insulting President on Facebook

She called Museveni a pair of buttocks

Stella Nyanzi has been charged with cyber-harassment after insulting President Yoweri Museveni on Facebook.

Through an update posted on January 28, Dr. Nyanzi allegedly called President Museveni “a pair of buttocks”, which the courts said is against the 2011 Computer Misuse Act.

In posting the ‘obscene’ comment, the 42-year-old activist is also accused of “disturbing the peace, quiet or right of privacy of His Excellency the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with no purpose of legitimate communication.”

State regression against Stella Nyanzi

However, sources indicate that this is a culmination of state regression against the activist after she criticised the First Lady Janet Museveni’s education policies.

Prior to her arrest on Friday, Nyanzi is reported to have been sacked from her Makerere University post and subjected to a travel ban.

She will remain in custody until April 25 when her bail application will be heard, NTV reports.
