Because of our fight for gender equality, women have been given same work targets as their male counterparts – for a lesser pay!
Because of our fight for gender equality, women want to perform every role traditionally reserved for men, including breadwinning.
Because of our fight for gender equality, men want to perform every role traditionally reserved for the feminine gender, including housekeeping.
Every day a female employee is mistreated by her female boss because of the ‘female beef.’
Every day, a female employee takes home lesser pay than her male colleagues not because her roles are different, but because of unfair employment terms.
Every day, a man goes home knowing that his wife will provide for the family and pay bills just because our fight for gender equality has reversed gender roles.
No matter how hard we fight for gender equality, a man will never become a woman and vice versa.
Your boss will never keep you at work just because you are a woman; your performance will always speak for you.
And as long as you are a woman, the world will expect you to be submissive, chaste and respectful (See 1 Peter 3: 1-4).
Gladys Shollei was sacked from JSC for corruption-related charges; in Mukurweini judges are taking bribes to deny rape victims justice. In Bungoma, murderers are giving bribes to protect their political and business ambitions.
Nancy Baraza was sacked for threatening a guard; in Nairobi, an MP can threaten an entire community with a panga and walk free. Other male leaders have fought and threatened, but still remain in office.
When Gladys Kaindi was transferred (read sacked because her new role doesn’t have a JD) from Police Service, I was aggrieved. Not because her replacement was a man or less qualified as alleged, but because she was not treated fairly as a woman.
You cannot fight for equality in an unfair society. So instead of fighting for equality, I will pursue the use of fair measures in my daily walk.
The only kind of equality I recognize is how we appear before God, and that I need not fight for because it is guaranteed.
I will never fight for equality.
